The computer-generated transcription of a traditional Oaxacan chilena constitutes the core material for this piece. However, the transcription is flawed and full of artifacts, rendering an already unreliable image of a music that is further blurred by harmonic distortion processes and repetitions. The question that originated this piece is how much distortion can a music material suffer before completely losing its identity. The answer is of less interest to me now than the music the question produced.
Diego Morábito, flute
Luis Mora, bass clarinet
Elihu Ortíz León, bassoon
Recorded at the Biblioteca Vasconcelos' auditorium by Carlos Millán. Premiered at the Aliento Roto concert, organized as the final concert for Iván Naranjo's course "An experimental approach to composition," organized by Red de Creadores Mexicanos.
